Watch Dogs

What do you do when you get your hands on a game title you’ve been waiting for since you heard about it in the end of 2012? You go bonkers and post its pictures as soon as you get your hands on it. That’s exactly what we did. Why? Simply put, this had to be the most anticipated game title since GTA. The sort of a game that would leave you wide-eyed — a little bit like a kid hopped up on sugar and coke. The game revolves around Aiden Pearce, the protagonist, hacker and vigilante on the loose and is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective. Just like in GTA series, the players need to complete missions, with set objectives, to gradually progress through the story.

For those who don’t want to take on the missions, they can try smaller tasks like freely loaf, hack, steal cars and go on a speed-killing frenzy around the open world of Chicago. What makes the game truly addictive is that it lets you explore Chicago inside out. Albeit, the city only unlocks as you clears more missions. Where it does leave GTA behind is the futuristic approach; hacking being a pivotal part of the game play. The setting is in a world not too distant from today’s connected world. This world, has a centralised operating system, connecting all electronics to one another; leaving a fair chance of hackers to log in and out most of the times. What comes in as a shocker is the ability of apps on Aiden’s smartphone which lets a player screen through anyone’s past and any scandalous things they’ve done. It’s almost like the game developers had something to do with the Google glass! Besides this, you can retrieve bank data, steal funds, unlock new cars, weapons and most interestingly hack into traffic lights to cause collisions.

This, as you’ll discover later is the easiest way to get rid of the police when they are on your back However, the game will keep you puzzled and constantly on the backfoot. While you are on a mission and against an enemy, you are forced to fight using your weapons and other tactical tricks. It would have been a great feat if the developers had let you hack into enemy’s gadgets and make them defunct, but that would have made the game too easy. The game is a good alternative for the GTA lovers, but the plot leaves some to be desired. Even then it is an out an out hacker’s game. However with an interesting hook and a ton of exciting gameplay it does stay with you for a really long time.
