‘Joker’ Hits $1 Bn Mark, Becomes Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movie
When the trailer of Joker first came out, fans of DC and the Batman comics were in awe as they couldn’t wait to see the story of the most loved villain in the history of comics come to screen. Now, after an astonishing eight-minute long standing ovation and the prestigious Golden Lion honour at the Venice Film Festival and nothing but rave reviews about the movies from every corner of the world, the Joaquin Phoenix starrer has officially hit the one billion dollar mark at the worldwide box office!
This makes Joker the first-ever R-Rated film in history to hit the jaw-dropping figure. The film shows the origin and the background story of the Joker’s character, who is undoubtedly one of DC’s most famous antagonist. Joaquin Phoenix portrayal as Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian, who later turns into the Joker to create crime and chaos in the Gotham city, has gained him lots of appreciation and praises. The film was directed and co-written by Todd Phillips and is part of DC Black, a series of standalone films based on DC characters and comics.
Due to its violent and psychologically disturbing content, the Joker became the first Batman film to gain an R-rating. The film has now also become the highest-grossing R-Rated movie ever, surpassing movies like The Matrix Reloaded and Deadpool 2.
Ryan Reynolds, who portrays the role of Deadpool, wished the cast and filmmakers of the movie, in true Ryan style. He took to Twitter to post his congratulatory message where he added Joker’s poster with an altered message - ‘You Mother F*cker’.
The poster was followed by the message, “R-Rated box office congratulatory posts aren’t like the ones you’re used to…”
Now, if reports are to be believed, then Todd Phillips has approached Warner Bros to talk about the sequence of the movie and we definitely don’t mind this sequel!
