Amitabh Bachchan Honoured With Dadasaheb Phalke Award

On 24th September 2019 (Tuesday) Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar posted, "The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahebPhalke (sic) Award. The entire country and the international community are happy. My heartiest congratulations to him."

Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in cinema and is presented annually at the National Film Festival. The recipient is honoured for their "outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.” As of 2017, the award comprises of a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹1,000,000.  The award was first presented in 1969 and was introduced by the Government of India to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke's contribution to Indian cinema. Dadasaheb Phalke (1870–1944), who is popularly known as "the father of Indian cinema", was an Indian film-maker who directed India's first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra in 1913.

Amitabh Bachchan has completed his 50 years in the film industry and entertained and inspired two generations. The Shehenshah of Bollywood had started his career in Bollywood in 1969, as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen’s National Award-winning film Bhuvan Shome. His first acting role was in Saat Hindustani. Big B has seen his share of ups and downs. From being seen as a failed actor when he was 30, to becoming the “Angry young man” when he did Zanjeer. Films like Deewar and Sholey depict how versatile and talented the actor is and are considered to be the best movies of Bollywood till date. After dominating the big screen for several years, Amitabh Bachchan became the host of KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati). Every year the show is aired for a couple of months and gets the highest TRP. The show is in its 11th season and is still dominating the television world because of the devoted fans and viewers of the show.

On 24th September (Tuesday), when Prakash Javadekar announced that Amitabh Bachchan would be bestowed upon with the DadaSaheb Phalke award, twitter exploded with people congratulating him.

Karan Johar wrote, "The most inspiring legend of Indian Cinema!!!! He is a bonafide rock star!!! I am honoured and proud to be in the Era of AMITABH BACHCHAN! The prestigious #DadaSahebPhalkeAward to @SrBachchan.”

Rajinikanth tweeted, "Congratulations dear @SrBachchanji !!! You richly deserve this commendable honour !!!! #DadaSahebPhalkeAward."

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis posted, "Many many congratulations Amitabh Bachchan ji for being selected for the prestigious #DadaSahebPhalkeAward! Maharashtra salutes you for your great and legendary contribution to the Indian cinema!"

Madhur Bhandarkar tweeted, "Congratulations to the legend @SrBachchan for the prestigious #DadaSahebPhalkeAward. You have entertained, inspired generations with your exhilarating performances"

Anil Kapoor wrote, “There is no mention of Indian cinema without this Legend! He has redefined cinema with every role & deserves every accolade for his innumerable contributions! Congratulations @SrBachchan #DadaSahebPhalkeward!”
