John Belushi’s Biopic to Star Alex Brightman in the lead
Ever since David Frankel decided to make a biopic based on the life of late John Belushi, there have been speculations as to who would play the role of the iconic comedian on the screen. Now, it looks like David has found the man who fits the bill in Broadway star Alex Brightman.
John Belushi was an American comedian, actor and singer. He was one of the seven original cast members of the widely famous NBC sketch comedy show - Saturday Night Live (SNL).
John tragically passed away in 1982, at the mere age of 33 due to a drug overdose at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles.
The film will focus on the journey of John and how he tasted success with his unique comic timing before his untimely dismissal. It will also talk about how he shot to fame when he became a regular on SNL before he was fired and how he starred in films like 'The Blues Brothers' and 'National Lampoon's Animal House'.
The movie will also star actress Annaleigh Ashford as John’s wife Judith and it is also speculated that comedian John Mulaney is likely to portray John’s friend and 'Saturday Night Live' co-star Dan Aykroyd.
A film on the life of John Belushi has been in development for years. It has also been reported that the current script of the movie was all set to be directed on stage before the project stalled back in 2014.
John’s widow Judith is reportedly involved in the making of the film too and will act as one of the executive producers.
Alex Brightman is best known for his appearances on Broadway in the stage versions of 'School of Rock' and 'Beetlejuice'.
David Frankel is best known for directing the hit Merly Steep and Anne Hathway starring, The Devil Wears Prada.
